Frame weaving is one of those crafts that is both simple to start and surprisingly addictive.
The “fun” benefits go way beyond just making a woven piece:
A frame loom gives you a clear setup, with the warp threads already in place, so you can focus on colours, textures, and patterns without feeling overwhelmed.
Unlike many crafts, weaving lets you mix materials freely - soft yarn, chunky wool, ribbons, even dried plants. Watching different textures come together is genuinely fun and a bit magical. The over-under motion creates a steady rhythm that many people find relaxing. It’s a bit like a hands-on version of mindfulness.
The most exciting aspect of weaving is you can try fringes, knots, colour blocks or unusual materials so each piece can be totally different. It’s like a playground for ideas and you're not just making something, you’re creating wall hangings, mini tapestries or even coasters that you can actually use or display.
You can start simply, learning the basics and getting a 'feel' for the process, then learn more advanced techniques over time without needing complicated equipment. In a fast, digital world, weaving slows things down. You can sit with a cup of tea, put on music and just enjoy the process. Our next Frame Weaving class is on Tuesday 7 July 2026 - why not book your place now?
